Once ready, it sits in my electro-tank for 14–40 hours, depending on its size and copper needs. The copper collects molecule by molecule, creating strength and unique texture.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eI rapidly oxidized the metal slightly, then coated it with a very thin layer of jewelry lacquer to help preserve the patina. This coating naturally wears off over time.\u003cbr\u003eCopper never rusts—when it encounters moisture, it protects itself by creating a living patina. This can lighten or darken the look of the metal. The oxidized layer is surface only; the metal can be polished if you prefer it brighter. A lot of people like to let it naturally do what it wants, or only buff certain areas to keep the contrasted antique look. I include a small polishing cloth sample with every order + simple care instructions—like taking off your jewelry before showering or swimming.
